Celebrating Saundersfoot This Summer

The seaside village that captures hearts. It's difficult to explain, but incredibly easy to feel. When Saundersfoot recently found itself back in the spotlight this week, it felt like a proud moment for everyone who knows and loves this special corner of Pembrokeshire. Recognised as one of the UK's favourite seaside destinations, the headlines were certainly well deserved. But for locals, regular visitors and generations of families who've made memories here, it simply confirmed what they've known all along.

A village that's grown with the times

A harbour at the heart of the community

Like many coastal communities, Saundersfoot has evolved over the years. What was once a quiet fishing village has gradually become one of Pembrokeshire's most vibrant seaside destinations, welcoming visitors throughout the year while still holding on to the character that made people fall in love with it in the first place.
Walk through the village today and you'll find independent cafés spilling onto the pavement, welcoming restaurants serving fresh local produce, boutique shops full of treasures, galleries showcasing local artists and businesses that have become favourites with both locals and returning visitors alike.
Perhaps nowhere shows Saundersfoot's transformation better than its harbour. Recent investment has carefully enhanced this much-loved waterfront, creating spaces that celebrate both its rich history and its exciting future. Ocean Square has become a wonderful place to sit, meet friends or simply take in the spectacular coastal views. The National Events Deck regularly hosts live music, community celebrations, food events and outdoor entertainment, bringing people together throughout the year. Standing proudly above the harbour is the impressive Coastal Schooner—a striking tribute to Saundersfoot's maritime heritage and coal-mining history, reminding visitors of the village's fascinating past while looking confidently towards the future.
Alongside it all, independent shops, cafés and the Marine Centre have helped create a harbour that's just as enjoyable on a quiet weekday morning as it is during one of the village's many celebrations.
While sunshine certainly brings the beach to life, Saundersfoot has become a destination that thrives in every season. Throughout the year, the village plays host to an exciting calendar of events that bring the community together and welcome visitors from near and far. The famous New Year's Day Swim has become one of Pembrokeshire's most loved traditions, while sporting events including sea swims, rowing competitions and Ironman Wales create an incredible atmosphere along the coast. Food festivals, live music, seasonal celebrations, artisan markets and community events mean there's often something happening around the harbour, whatever the time of year.
Of course, it isn't only the events that make Saundersfoot special. It's children patiently waiting for a crab to appear beneath the harbour wall. Fresh fish and chips enjoyed by the sea or an ice cream on the promenade. Watching paddleboarders drift across the bay on a calm morning or the sound of laughter carrying across the beach on a warm summer evening. Finding the perfect café for breakfast before wandering through the village. Or simply sitting quietly on the harbour wall, watching the boats rise and fall with the tide.
These are the moments people remember long after they've gone home.
Ask someone why they love Saundersfoot and you'll probably hear a different answer every time. For some, it's where family holidays have been made for generations and for others it's somewhere they discovered once and couldn't wait to return to. Here at Swallow Tree Gardens, we're incredibly lucky to have Saundersfoot just a few minutes away. Our guests often spend their days exploring the village, wandering around the harbour, enjoying local events or relaxing on the beach before returning to the peaceful surroundings of the park. Having the best of both worlds is something we never take for granted.
Here's to Saundersfoot! Awards and recognition are always wonderful to see but the greatest compliment isn't found in newspaper headlines. It's the families who return every year, the children who grow up bringing their own children back and the visitors who arrive for a weekend and leave already planning their next stay.
Some places are beautiful. Some places are memorable. Saundersfoot somehow manages to be both.
