Our Impact
We are very aware of the natural beauty of our surroundings and although the activities at Swallow Tree have a fairly low impact, it is a direct one. We acknowledge that we have a responsibility to conserve this environment by minimising our impact and promoting more sustainable business practices.
The primary resources used are for lighting, cooking and heating, these activities involve the burning of fossil fuels to generate energy, releasing carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. These activities also generate waste. We aim to continually improve our environmental performance by implementing an Environmental Management System (EMS) focusing on;
- Compliance with applicable Environmental Legislation.
- Preventing Pollution.
- Monitoring consumption of natural resources.
- Encourage good energy House Keeping amongst staff and guests.
- Improving waste management by reducing our waste and recycling as much as possible.
These focus areas are reflected in the Improvement Plan, which documents improvements for each year.
We will carry out regular checks and reviews to ensure the EMS remains effective. In order to effectively deliver the EMS we plan to encourage our staff through training and our guests through information to be actively involved.
This policy is available to all interested parties via our website and will be updated annually.
Green Tourism
Wherever we go and whatever we do, we have an impact. Make positive choices, and you can help us care for Pembrokeshire and make that impact a positive one. Have a fantastic holiday!
1. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. You can help by refusing packaging and bags you don’t need, and using the recycling banks you’ll see in most main car parks across the area. Just ask at reception for the nearest recycling banks. We have reusable shopping bags from our on site shop.
2. Get Out Of The Car! Walking, cycling and riding are great ways to see the area without adding to traffic. Use public transport if you need to travel to your start point, but try exploring near to where you are staying - there are some fantastic places to see right on your doorstep...just ask! The big local attractions, such as Oakwood, have got together to offer a Daytripper bus, which picks you up just up the road from Swallow Tree.
3. Stay Local, Eat Local, Buy Local, See Local. Support local producers and services - and you’ll see what Pembrokeshire can offer, and benefit local communities. Visit farmers markets, farm shops, village stores, pubs and cafés. Our distinctive culture shines through the hundreds of community events that happen throughout the year - and the food and drink is simply fantastic.
4. Chill Out - Switch Off! You can see the stars at night in Pembrokeshire! Help us reduce light pollution, energy use and CO2 emissions by switching off lights and all those standby buttons when you don’t need them. 13% of your home power consumption is used on Standby mode and TV’s on standby produce 480,000 tonnes of Co2 emissions annually! Help us reduce water consumption by using just the water you need; and then sit back and enjoy the view.
5. Follow The Countryside Code - it reminds us all to protect, respect and enjoy: look after plants and animals; take litter away; leave gates and property as you find them; keep dogs under close control; and consider other people and users when visiting the countryside. And enjoy!
